Nominations - Lorenz Love Exchange Tagset | AO3 Collection Profile

Welcome to the Lorenz Love Exchange!

This will be a gift exchange to celebrate Lorenz Hellman Gloucester's birthday.

We'll be creating gifts for each other that all have one thing in common: Lorenz!

Schedule for the exchange:

Nominations open: 2/26
Nominations close: 3/6
Sign ups open: 3/7
Sign ups close: 3/21
Matches out: 3/23
Assignments due: 5/30
Reveal: 6/13

Rules

You must be 18 years of age or older to participate in this exchange.

NSFW content is allowed, and so no minors will be allowed to participate.

All ships must include Lorenz.

Lorenz Hellman Gloucester/Claude von Riegan is a valid tag for this exchange.

Lorenz Hellman Gloucester & Claude von Riegan is a valid tag for this exchange.

Sylvain Jose Gautier/Claude von Riegan is an excellent ship, but is not a valid tag for this exchange, because it does not feature Lorenz.

Crossover ships are not eligible for this exchange.

You must request and offer three unique ships.

Each sign up will only allow one ship, and they all must be different - and, of course, all include Lorenz. You can request and offer for up to ten ships, but the minimum is three, to help facilitate matches. Because so many (if not all) Lorenz ships could be considered rare pairs, this is simply so that we can match everyone!

Poly ships are more than welcome as long as Lorenz is part of them!

You are PROMPTING and supplying ideas; this is not a commission.

Try to be flexible and give some general ideas for a variety of things that you would like to see. We are matching based on ship, rating, medium, and archive warning, so it's going to be up to you to give inspo for something that you might want to receive.

If you don't have ideas and you simply want to list your DNWs, that is also fine, but that means you really will be happy with getting anything as long as it doesn't contain your listed DNWs. Think carefully about this before you say "anything goes" - we will take you on your word for it.

DNWs are required as part of your sign up. They must be in your request description box. If they are not there, your sign up will be dropped. If you truly have no DNWs, you need to write "I have no DNWs." in that box.

You can go into further detail on your particular likes/dislikes and offer prompts/ideas in a dear creator letter (as long as you follow the prompt not commission rule), but at the absolute minimum, all your hard DNWs must be in your request description - the mods will not enforce DNWs that you did not put in your sign-up. You can copy and paste right from your dear creator letter if you want, but it has to be in your AO3 sign up description box as well.

DNWs cannot be vague things such as "DNW anything yucky" or "DNW gross things". These will not be enforced. You need to be specific and thorough for your own comfort level as well as to give your gifter appropriate boundaries. They must be specific, nonjudgemental, and not overly restrictive (you may not, for example, list "DNW anything that is not (this one prompt)".

Gifters must respect their recipient's listed DNWs. Dear creator letters are optional, but if they have one, we encourage you to look there for more detail on ideas they may enjoy. Each sign up must have DNWs in the AO3 description area, however.

No malicious interpretation of prompts or ships.

The goal here is to create something as a gift for someone else. Don't twist their prompts, and be sure to make something that reasonably falls within what they asked for and outside their DNW.

Impossible requests and/or extremely limited requests may result in being unmatchable.

The request/prompt/idea not commission rule is very important for this exchange, because we anticipate having a wide variety of ships given that most of Lorenz's ships are considered rare pairs. If your creator gets an impossible/overly difficult assignment because they matched you on ship and rating but you only want one thing that they will not make, the creator will not be at fault - there should be some flexibility in your requests. If this is the reason a creator defaults, your request will have to be filled by a volunteer pinch hit. If it is too specific/impossible/limited, it may not be filled.

Dear creator letters are great for this, to give a variety of ideas and let your gifter know what sort of things you like in general, so they can choose something specific to create! We aren't saying you have to supply a thousand ideas, but a few general concepts will go a long way in giving people something to go off and create you something wonderful.

Use those optional tags! Those also give people ideas for things you like to see and will help get inspiration flowing.

If I default, am I banned from next year's exchange?

Possibly. If you default on an assignment and do not have mod approval to do so, you will not be allowed to participate next year when we do this exchange again. However, if you reach out to mods and we take a look at the circumstances (such as: you received an impossible request, the prompts were too limited and read more as a commission than a prompt), we may grant you an exception and then just ask you to pinch hit and/or treat.

Unless you get an approval from the mod team, however, defaulting will result in not being allowed to participate next year.

FAQs

Can I sign up with multiple accounts?

No, you may only sign up with one account. We do strongly encourage people to treat, however!

What ships are eligible?

We will be using a special tagset created for this exchange. Ships must all include Lorenz, and romantic, platonic, and poly ships are all welcome. Only ships that have been nominated during the nomination period will be eligible for offer or request during this exchange, so make sure that you get your nominations in!

If a ship that you would like to nominate has a tag already, go ahead and use AO3's autofill option. If it does not, try to use the characters' full names when creating your tag. Make sure you check to see if that ship tag has already been nominated, and make sure you spelled the characters' names correctly.

You can nominate up to 20 ships for Lorenz in this exchange, and they can be platonic or romantic!

Here's the tagset to nominate in!

What are the minimums?

You must offer to create for at least three unique ships (and may offer for up to ten unique ships) and you must request up to three unique ships (and may request up to ten unique ships.)

All fic works must be a complete work at a minimum of 500 words of a quality you would be happy to receive. If you write more, that is amazing, but they cannot be posted in parts, so please keep that in mind. A complete work must be submitted to count as fulfilling your assignment.

Art works must be a complete work of a quality you would be happy to receive. The minimum is a clean sketch on unlined paper. If you want to make a comic or multiple pieces, that's amazing, but the same rules apply: A complete work must be submitted to AO3 to count as fulfilling your assignment.

What's the difference between / and & in ship tags?

The / indicates a romantic or sexual ship, the & indicates a platonic ship. Please keep these in mind correctly when requesting, offering, and creating! Ship works do not fulfill a & request, and platonic-only work does not fulfill a / request.

What are the optional tags for?

You can use already created AO3 tags in the optional tags section to give your creator inspo for your gift, and to increase your chances of matching with someone who is offering the same tags. Things like "Fire Emblem: Three Houses Blue Lions Route" "Pre-Timeskip | Academy Phase (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)" "Slow Burn" "Manhandling" "Alternate Universe - Soulmates" would all go here - these are already existing AO3 tags, and not tags that were nominated for this exchange.

These are not required for matches, but they will help increase ranking (ie, if a set matches on a ship and an optional tag, it will be a preferred match verses a set that only matches on a ship, but optional tags only are not enough to make a match)

DO NOT LIST OTHER SHIPS HERE. Only the ships in the tag set are allowed for the exchange.

What if I have a question for my recipient?

Do not reach out to your recipient directly if you have questions. Message the mod account on twitter with your AO3 username, their AO3 username, and your question, and we will get back to you ASAP with their answer.

How do ratings work in this exchange?

When you sign up, you will be asked to specify ratings for your requests and offers.

Check ALL RATINGS UP TO THE MAXIMUM YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO CREATE OR RECEIVE.

Do not just check the maximum rating, but every rating, that you are open to, unless there is only one rating you are willing to create or receive.

This is not a guarantee you will receive an assignment with the highest rating you choose, but that requests/offers match with at least one rating in common. The fewer ratings your offer/request, the more difficult it may be to match, so please be sure you put all of the ratings you would be willing to create.

If that is just one, that's fine! But we want to be sure we are clear on this: do not just check the maximum unless that is all you are interested in. Doing so may make you more difficult to match, and we may have to ask you to potentially modify your sign up if you are unmatchable because of providing limited options.

How do I enable treats?

There is a new setting on AO3 that you will need to enable in order to receive treats. During your sign up, you will be asked if you will accept treats, and if so, you need to go to your account settings' preferences page and check the box that says 'Allow others to give me gift works outside gift exchanges and prompt memes.'

Do treats have to meet the minimum?

Nope! Treats must abide by all other rules - respect their DNWs, provide the medium they requested, respect the rating and archive warning, try to stay in the realm of things they have requested - but they do not have to meet the minimums of 500 words/clean sketch. They should still be completed, however.

Nominations close tomorrow! There are SO many Lorenz ships nominated; it's wonderful to see everyone's ideas.

Quick note: Mod Hope oopsied on the backend, so if you nominated Three Hopes ships, please check and see if they're there. If not, ping us here or on Twitter, or renominate please, and sorry for the inconvenience! Lorenz would want me to use the fancy Latin to apologize, so mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. 😂💜
lorenzlovexchange: (Default)
Are you accepting Three Hopes ships for this exchange?
This was a tough one, since most of the characters are the same. Given the administrative nightmare with so many characters being duplicated, we are accepting Hopes relationships ONLY if Hopes is the only game they appear in. For example, we will accept Lorenz/Shez or Lorenz/Arval for nominations under Three Hopes, but if you want to nominate Lorenz/Linhardt or Lorenz/Ashe, that needs to be under Three Houses. Please feel free to prompt your creator if you would like Three Hopes content in your gift! Keep in mind not everyone has played, though. If you include a ship possible in both games (like Lorenz/Ignatz), and you give a prompt for Hopes-only content, you must include a Three Houses prompt for that ship too. We will not enforce a DNW that demands only Hopes content.

In addition, you need to nominate a minimum of three Three Houses ships for a valid request. We love Shez and we think a purple/purple ship is divine, but matching is hard and Hopes content is sparse. You're free to request Hopes ships in addition to your base three.

How should we indicate which ship we want if a character may appear as different genders?
Just nominate the canonical ship that doesn't specify a gender, like Lorenz/Byleth. You can put your gender preferences in your prompts.

Feel free to ask a question anytime here or on Twitter! Have fun with your nominations!

Since we are matching on archive warnings, we wanted to do a quick run through to help explain them. It can be confusing!

You are selecting archive warnings to indicate what you would be comfortable creating or receiving. You are only matched on one archive warning, so even if you check three of them, you may only get a gift with one of those warnings included, even if that warning is "no archive warnings apply".

What does it mean if I mark...

Choose not to use archive warnings: The work MIGHT contain rape/non-con, underage, major character death, or graphic depictions of violence. The work does not include a warning for these. It might NOT contain any of them, but if it does, THIS TAG MEANS THAT THE AUTHOR DID NOT WARN FOR IT.

It doesn't mean that it does not exist. Do not select this if you want a work that has no archive warning content in it. That is not what this means.

No archive warnings apply: This work does not contain rape/non-con, underage, major character death, or graphic depictions of violence. Select this if you want or are open to a work that does not contain any of the archive warning themes.

Underage: This work contains underage content. Select this only if you are open to creating or receiving this content.

Rape/non-con: This work contains rape/non-con content. Select this only if you are open to creating or receiving this content.

Major character death: This work contains major character death. Select this only if you are open to creating or receiving this content.

Graphic depictions of violence: This work contains graphic depictions of violence. Select this only if you are open to creating or receiving this content.

If you do not want any archive warnings in your work, you need to select "No archive warnings apply" not "Choose not to use archive warnings." We can't stress enough that there is a huge difference between those two warnings.

If you are open to ANY archive warning content and do not want it warned for, you need to mark "Choose not to use archive warnings".

If you want a work to potentially contain any of the archive warnings but not all of them, you need to select, one by one, which archive warnings you are offering or requesting. If that is only underage, only select underage. If that is underage and major character death, select both of those.

Examples:

This person is willing to create or receive (depending on which section they are filling out) works that DO NOT CONTAIN any of the following: rape/non-con, underage, major character death, or graphic depictions of violence.

This person is willing to create or receive (depending on which section they are filling out) works that either:

1. DO NOT CONTAIN any of the following: rape/non-con, underage, major character death, or graphic depictions of violence.

2. Contain graphic depictions of violence.

3. Contain major character death.

4. Contain both graphic depictions of violence and major character death.

A request like this only has to have ONE of the archive warnings fulfilled, so in this case, a work could contain none, could contain one of the checked boxes, or both of the checked boxes.

This doesn't mean that they have to create four different works, or will receive four different works, only that there are four possible archive warning outcomes for the one work they will receive.

This person is willing to create or receive (depending on which section they are filling out) ONLY works that contain major character death.

They may be difficult to match because they are not allowing for works that do not contain any archive warnings, so checking only this box is requiring that anything created MUST contain major character death.

If they are open to major character death but would not mind if there was no major character death, they need to check both "no archive warnings apply" and "major character death". If they truly only want to create/receive something that contains major character death, they would leave only this box checked, but again, may result in being unmatchable.

Nominations for Lorenz Love Exchange are now closed, and sign ups are opening tomorrow (3/6)!

We've seen so many lovely rarepairs for Lorenz, and we're so excited to see what all of you make!

What this means for matching, though, is that if your ships are TOO rare you may not be able to be matched with a fellow shipper to create for you. You may want to offer and request a more well-known Lorenz ship for matching, in addition to the rarepairs near and dear to your heart. You have up to ten ships! The more you offer and request, the better your chances of matching.

YOU are responsible for being matchable. We will reach out if we run matches and people cannot be matched, but if you don’t edit your offers and requests, we will put your requests up as pinch hits. They may or may not be picked up. You are not guaranteed a work if your sign-up is unmatchable; we will not force people to create for something they didn’t sign up for.

No anon reveals for this exchange. Works are due 5/30. The two-week waiting period between then and reveals is to give time for last minute pinch hits and TREATS! (We will potentially have a raffle and reward random treaters, so stay tuned!) Remember, treats don't have to meet the minimum requirements, so please consider giving as many gifts as you want for Lorenz's birthday!

Work reveals will be on June 13 to celebrate Lorenz's birthday. We encourage you to post to Twitter and tag the Twitter account @/LorenzLoveX, so we can retweet and celebrate Lorenz’s birthday in style! (edited)

Nominations are pretty straightforward, but sometimes it's good to see them!

The fandom tag will ALWAYS be Fire Emblem: Fuukasetsugetsu | Fire Emblem: Three Houses. You should not attempt to nominate any other fandom. It won't be approved. Crossover ships are not eligible for this exchange.

Any ship you nominate MUST have Lorenz in it. This exchange is all about him, after all!

We've shown how if you just type Lorenz, a drop down will appear with some already existing tags that have Lorenz in them. If the ship you're looking for is here and hasn't been nominated yet, go ahead and click that one. Sometimes, searching by the other character will pull up the Lorenz ship too - please try to find a premade tag before creating your own!

If it's not here, you can write it in and then submit it that way. Please make sure you're spelling characters' names correctly and using full names, if available, for all characters.

You can nominate up to 20 Lorenz ships, whether platonic or romantic, so make sure you get your ship in there so that it can be requested and offered!

We know reading walls of text can be overwhelming and that sometimes it helps to have a visual! We've gone through and made a sample sign up to walk through exactly what you'll be looking at.

Here's the first half of a sign up!

This person is requesting Claude/Lorenz as a ship. They want a romantic or sexual work to be created, so they've chosen the Lorenz Hellman Gloucester/Claude von Riegan tag.

They only want to receive fic, so they've only checked the fic box. If they wanted art as an option, they would need to check both.

They have also fixed their settings on AO3 so that they can be gifted works outside of exchanges - which means they can accept treats!

They would like to receive gifts with one of the following ratings: General Audiences, Teen and Up Audiences, Mature. This is not a guarantee they will get a Mature gift, just that they will match on at least one of those ratings. They will not match with someone who is only offering Explicit or Not Rated.

They have indicated they will accept fics that have the following Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply or Graphic Depictions of Violence. This does not guarantee they will receive a fic with graphic violence. It only means that they will match on at least one of these categories. They will not match on any of the other archive warnings. Someone they match with might be offering them, but because they only clicked those two in their request, those are the ONLY TWO their creator should consider.

They have chosen to link a dear creator letter. Please check it out!

The first thing they listed in their text box was their DNWs. They are clear and specific. There is nothing that says "DNW anything yucky" which would not be an acceptable or enforceable DNW.

They also gave some prompt ideas! They tried to cover a lot of ground and give many options for someone to create for them. There's more written than is showing up in the screenshot - they might have indicated as well some kind of examples of the graphic depictions of violence they are interested in seeing.

They could indicate "I like hurt/comfort that includes injury where one character takes care of another one. Preference for Lorenz being injured and Claude caring for him! Battlefield violence that is canon appropriate (like people being killed in battle or taking injuries in battle) can also create fun drama!" could be good jumping off points to give people ideas, for example.

They also listed a few optional tags. These aren't required for a match, but if they match on every other subject with two people, and only one of them has a matching optional tag, that person will be the favored match. It increases your chances of pairing with people who are offering what you're requesting, so it's worth using! These must be already created AO3 tags.

This person is offering Sylvain and Lorenz, and they are willing to create something romantic or sexual, so they used the Sylvain Jose Gautier/Lorenz Hellman Gloucester tag.

They will create either fic or art, so they checked both. They could be matched with someone who only wants art, and they would need to ONLY create art for them. Same if they matched with someone who only wanted fic. If they match with someone who will accept either, they can choose which medium to create in, but are not required to make both. To fulfill an assignment, you only have to complete one gift.

This person is willing to create things for ANY rating. Make sure that you really mean this if you check it. You could be matched with someone who only wants General Audiences or Teen and Up rating, and you would be expected to create a General Audiences or Teen and Up piece because you indicated that you would create for any rating.

This person is willing to create things with ANY archive warning. Again, make sure that you really mean this if you check it. No request should box you into only one thing, but if you indicate you are willing to write any archive warning, you may be matched with people who have prompts that fall into any of those archive warnings.

This person also put some optional tags in. They aren't guaranteed to be matched on these, but it will potentially increase compatibility with matches, so it's a good idea to fill out the optional tags for both requests and offers!
